Question 66: Oliver, you cannot be God. Else wise consciousness would not be aware of itself, if contents of consciousness as the psycho-mental being "Oliver" were self-contained, right?
Oliver: I have to refer you to questions 7-10 and would suggest that you let the content of this non-dualistic webpage work on you. If that is not enough for you to have trust, perhaps you will find fulfilment with other "providers of concepts". The only important point here is that enlightenment does not have to be searched for, but that you are already free exactly in this moment. You are wearing the glasses that you are looking for. But believe me, when I tell you that I understand the hunger of your mind for "Truth". I once passed through the same thing. But some day down the road you will just let go of this hunger, to wake up suddenly in the Land of Plenty that you had, paradoxically, never left.
| "You want to be free? Then don't look at the totally trivial hand of the master when he shows you the moon. Forget the attempts to logically link the hand (dualism) to the moon (non-dualism) with the aid of mental concepts. It is neither possible nor necessary. Have faith and look at the moon. Clarity will follow automatically." Oliver |
Question 67: Oliver, do you experience your true identity also in deep sleep, as your consciousness is then no longer relating to objects?
Oliver: There is nobody to experience his true identity, neither in deep sleep nor in the awake state. There is no "experiencer" of true identity, because every experiencer IS that identity (subject=object). Just as the personal identity normally disappears in deep sleep (in deep sleep you don't exist), it is now absent also in the awake state. So, while during the night "nobody" (no person) is sleeping, in the morning "no-one" wakes up. This is called "awakening". "Liberation" finally means that nobody cares any longer if the so-called "awakening" has happened or not.
Additional query to question 67: But, Oliver, isn't exactly THAT a proof that you must exist as "no-one"? Or else you couldn't answer me because also talking, writing, reading and awakening in the morning are functions of conciousness aren't they? What else?
Oliver: You are trying to mix up two dimensions, the dual realm of this apparent universe and the non-dual realm, which I'm pointing to in this website. It is not necessary to first understand "different levels" of the dual realm before you can "rise" to the non-dual one. It is totally irrelevant whether there are any hairs between the fingers of the master's hand pointing to the moon. That has nothing to do with the moon. Of course you are free to imagine that there is Oneness appearing as a "nobody". You can replace "nobody" by any random word that will help you to drop the idea of object and subject, of cause and effect of the dual world of illusions. Your mind clings to this "nobody" as it cannot grasp the fact that, according to my concept, forms simply emerge out of Oneness, that are Oneness themselves. Without any reason. Without any purpose. Without any cause. The mind cannot argue about Oneness, cannot prove it, as it can only divide things, which will lead from Oneness into duality. It is like the singularity before the Big Bang. It can make the mind go crazy in its attempt to understand it. But it is not necessary for the mind to understand in order that liberation may happen. The so-called "understanding" that you are looking for is there when the mind gives up. With that, however, the identified person - thus the thought of separation, which is in fact responsible for your questions - has disappeared. Depending on the concept, what remains is called "no one", "Oneness", "Silence", "Being", "Self" or "All", for example. There exists no expression for it, that would be accepted by the analytic mind. The mind will always want to relate a term to other terms, which leads away from Unity. Just find out WHO it is that asks these questions (yes, sure, since Ramana Maharshi THE famous Satsang question), or, more simply, allow the one who asks these questions to disappear.
Below is a comment from Candice to the sender of the additional question 67:
| "You don't have to understand the teacher, you have to liberate, with the help of his teaching, your WANTING to understand from your personal WANTING. Only then will understanding come to you, naked and in silence. EVERYTHING is then self-understood. You are not needed for it any more. Note: About three months ago I would not have believed this to be possible… But OLIVER'S Satsang clears away everything - you have no choice but to be free." |
Comment from Oliver: Well, well, that's quite something :-) Joy is emerging! Or should I say: "No one" is feeling joy? ;-)))
Question 68: Oliver, H.W.L. Poonja's said, "From the first not a thing is. From the outset your nature is free.". In theory we find this plausible. Can you nonetheless show us a metaphor, resp. a direct relation to the "practical" life?
Oliver: Very freely translated but conveying the meaning Poonja's words imply the following: "There is nothing to be done in order to be free. It is your true nature to be free." So you cannot become something that you are already inherently. Therefore Poonja advises you to just be silent. With "silent" he doesn't mean that you are not allowed to speak or to start meditating. No, he says that you cannot do anything wrong as you are free already. There is nothing that hampers you from being free. That is the ABSOLUTE silence that is here in every moment, whatever you do. It can't be more "practical", can it :-)? This silence is your true nature. Being. Oneness. Pure existence that is closer to you than anything you can imagine, as you ARE this already.
Question 69: Oliver, if you were a professional football coach, what would you work on? On the mental attitude of the players or would you expand their consciousness? To do nothing and just rest in everlasting peace would cost you your job as a coach, wouldn't it?
Oliver: Expressed in an exaggerated way that is similar to your asking me - if I were a baker - whether I use yeast or sourdough to bake bread. I'm only an amateur baker, but I would prefer yeast. The question here is not mental training or expansion of consciousness (where exactly is the difference?), but Awakening and Liberation. Fortunately the baker does not have to be liberated to make the bread-dough rise, or else we would have long lost our teeth with all that hard bread ;-)
Question 70: Oliver, you say that fear can arise even if a fearful "I" does no longer exist. OK, but how to handle the nasty physical react-ions?
Oliver: You have hinted at it already: If no "someone" is here anymore, no one is handling any physical reactions in any way. They are just there. They emerge and usually disappear again quickly as they no longer receive any energy from "somebody" (= thoughts) who gets all worked up and intensifies the reactions by identifying with them, giving them time and their own story.
